By comprehension and recognizing the dangers early and building up methods of evaluating and controlling existing and new natural risks benefits related with modernization might be appreciated without debasement of ecological conditions. These days South America is confronting different ecological issues. Among a few reasons for ecological contamination three significant causes affecting the earth of South America are1.â â â à ¢ â â â â â â â â â â Air pollution2.â â â â â â â â â â â â â â Water pollution3.â â â â â â â â â â â â â â Misuse of manures insecticides.(Lamb, 2006, 145, 1)Air pollutionAir contamination is a major issue which South America has looked for quite a long time. These causes soil disintegration due to which fruitfulness of land diminishes bringing about more loss of vegetation. The modern zones of South America like Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay seriously experience the ill effects of air and water pollution.South American nations have immense stores of mineral assets. Argentina has large amounts of store of coal, lead, copper and so on, Columbia is a main provider of emerald, and Venezuela leads underway and fare of oil outside Middle East, Venezuela positions eighth on the planet underway of precious stones. Mining is one of the significant occupations in nations of South America. Major ecological effects of mining tasks are: (I) corruption of land; (ii) contamination of surface and ground water assets; (iii) contamination of air. (iv) Deforestation including loss of widely varied vegetation; (v) restoration of affected populace including innate; (vi) impacts in verifiable landmarks and strict places.Prime rea sons for Air contamination are follows1.â â â â â â â â â â â â â â Poisonsâ bases lice Sulfure dioxyde, Nitrogã ¨ne oxydes, unpredictable hydro-carbons, etc.2.â â â â â â â â â â â â â â Carbon monoxidesâ and other Poisonousâ gases producing from factories3.â â â â â â â â â â â â â â à Carbon dioxide discharging from manufacturing plants when crude materials or fuel is copied increments worldwide warming.4.â â â â â â â â â â â â â â The Ozone layer in our environment is continually being affected by cfcs and pressurized canned products transmitted by electronic merchandise like fridges, forced air systems and Foam blowing factories.5.â â â â â â â â â â â â â â Methane gas emanating from open trash additionally contribute in expanding worldwide worming. (Sheep, 2006, 121, 1)Environmental contamination because of abuse of composts and pesticidesIn South America due to urbanizationâ â accessibility of agrarian terrains has diminished. To adapt up to this issue expanding yield considerably was important. To satisfy this reason utilization of composts and pesticides are expanding step by step. Pesticides can be partitioned into three subgroups in particular Insecticides, Fungicides Herbicides. Bug sprays contain Chlorine, Phosphorous, Carbonate synthetic substances, for example, DDT, Aldrin and so forth. Herbicides are commonly utilized for controlling development of weeds. These reason less damage to the earth than bug sprays. Case of Herbicides is Atrazine, Propachlor and so on. Herbicides don't leave long haul impact on soil. Here manures and bug sprays are utilized broadly. (Sheep, 2006, 201, 2-7)Suitable solutions for control ecological pollutionThere are a few different ways to lessen natural pollution.Plantation of trees diminishes air contamination. Trees assimilate Carbon Dioxideâ â and give out oxygen. This keeps up barometrical equilibrium.Industrial contamination can be decreased by following steps.Applying cleaner creation implies methodicallly tending to all periods of the creation procedure and item life-cycle. Cleaner creation envelops vitality and crude material protection, decrease in the utilization of poisonous substances and item and procedure changes that diminish squanders and contaminations recently delivered. Every one of these choices have a similar point, to decrease the danger of human and the earth from mechanical Activities and utilization, and to do as such in the most practical manner conceivable. Just the control techniques, end-of-pipe (EOP) devises were concocted to take care of the issues of contaminated surface waters , inebriated air and different aftereffects of mechanical turns of events. EOP squanders, likewise less perilous than the crude squanders .Reducing household squanders in another approach to forestall natural contamination. The manures in this procedure progressively helpful in expanding soil ripeness. Help of non benefit associations could be taken for this reason. Specialized expertise could be taken from different nations in planning machines to explain this purpose. To diminis h water contamination Llma excrement can be utilized .à This procedure is utilized in tin and silver mines of Bolivia to treat releasing toxic waters. In this procedure contaminated water is gone through manure beds of limestone and compost. Microscopic organisms living in this fertilizer assimilate acids in polluter water making it antacid. It was designed by Professor Paul Younger, educator of Hydro concoction Engineering at Newcastle University. U.K. Lima fertilizer is accessible in bounteous amounts in South America, creature cultivation being one of boss callings there.Another method of diminishing water contamination is collecting fish and shellfish. These ingest metal substance in water. Sea-going plants additionally fill this need. Coaching And Mentoring Has Been In Society Management Essay
Training And Mentoring Has Been In Society Management Essay Training and coaching has been in the public eye for a huge number of years in some structure or another. Training has been compared with directing and treatment as an enormous number of advisors have retrained to become mentors. In the only remaining century it turned out to be perpetually famous with an accentuation on life training, scholarly instructing, administrative training and sports training. Anyone can consider themselves a mentor or tutor and on the grounds that there is an absence of guideline and accreditation the result is issues with adherence and responsibility and no chance to get of really estimating its viability. Over the most recent 20 years industry and business have become tied up with the training and tutoring system. An overview by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (2011) demonstrates instructing and coaching to be an expanding action to improving execution and representative commitment. In view of this the mentor has a duty regarding giving information, through specialized capacity and expertise inside and out guaranteeing the protã ©gã ©s individual and expert turn of events. There are unpretentious contrasts among instructing and tutoring, yet scholastics would contend training is a component of coaching (Clutterbuck and Lane 2004). Anyway there is still a lot of disarray and Ives (2010) contended that the explanation behind disarray is the absence of formal definition. Another method of survey this is with Hawkins and Smith (2007, p39) who in correlation contend that various definitions can portray the region coaching may cover. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development review proceeds to express that it is likewise confounding a result of hesitance by industry to lead formal assessment on their projects and what will its worth be inside organizations. There are various definitions for training and tutoring. Bax, Negrutiu, and Calota (2011 p323) specifies the job of a mentor as helping, appearing, giving criticism, clarifying and empowering. Alongside Linder-Pelz and Hall (2008, p43) who state training is tied in with, encouraging a customers execution, experience, learning and development. The International Coaching Federation (2011, p1) portrays a mentor as, giving target evaluation and perceptions that encourage the people upgraded mindfulness. Tutoring has been characterized as a connection between two individuals with learning and improvement as its motivation, (Megginson and Garvey 2004, p2) (refered to in Brockbank and McGill 2006). The most striking connection between's the definitions is the expression realizing, which best portrays a fundamental part to the relationship that makes training and tutoring unmistakable. Instead of Wallace and Gravells (2009 p10) who offer another option for tutoring as a drawn out duty and a more continuous procedure than instructing. It is in this manner recognized that during training or coaching some type of learning will happen. Subsequently this would demonstrate the mentor or tutor need to have a degree of skill, experience and preparing strategy. The European Mentoring and Coaching Council have distinguished their center capabilities inside their code of morals and Clutterbuck and Lane (2004) endeavored to recognize regular properties. Along these lines other administering bodies, for example, the relationship of instructing, the relationship of expert official training the worldwide mentor alliance have characterized their own variants further adding to the disarray. Simultaneously the examination led by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development overview (2011), and The Institute of Leadership and Management Creating an instructing society Report. (2011) accentuate instructing empowering influences inside business should be aware of the considerable number of plans and styles so as to finding the best key model. Hence likewise with most intercessions there should be a manual for helping social change, these are the structure squares of the different ideas and models. The GROW Model (Goal, Reality, Options, Will) is the most popular model for training. This model is an objective orientated model which is shortsighted, straightforward and use. It has been widely depicted by numerous creators including Whitmore (1992, 2003, 2009), Downey (2003), Clutterbuck, and Megginson (2005). They infer the model can be used by anybody without expert preparing, yet is inadequate with regards to a self-reflection process. The Chiumento inquire about report: Coaching Counts (2007) features the pattern of associations utilizing training models. The GROW model being the favored decision. As indicated by the writing the model takes into account the mentor and coachee relationship to be created and the person to create and deal with their objectives. Anyway it is utilized prevalently for a present moment and to address a business issue, improve singular execution, encourage the learning of new aptitudes, to set up a person for advancement or change. For the most part contextual investigations give instances of how the model is applied. In this manner examination is troublesome. Further instructing models are the system to encourage this change inside a person. The mentor by definition is the planner of the procedure and not only an educator. Instructing models are the toolbox for a mentor to build up the training relationship with a coachee. In any case, likewise with all toolboxs a mentor can gather an immense range of devices, however never build up the fitness to utilize them. Connor, M. Pokora, J. (2007 p12) states when a model is utilized it, gives a guide to the excursion, for both customer and mentor. That excursion is rarely straight and it is anything but difficult to get lost en route so there must be a procedure to alter course. To more readily characterize best practice the European Mentoring and Coaching Council delivered a code of morals (2008). This was an endeavor to normalize the wording, ability, uprightness, polished skill and structure. Tragically this is just one administering bodys bundle. Hawkins and Smith (2007) first introduced their model of training in the mid 80s. They later built up the model which concentrated on the mentor and coachee relationship from the beginning. Specifically, empowering the setting of clear guidelines while arranging the agreement. The CLEAR Model (Contracting, Listening, Exploring, Action, Review) was fundamentally the same as the GROW model in spite of the fact that not as confined and allows a degree of adaptability. There is more prominent accentuation on the input circle for the mentor and coachee. In view of the eliteness of writing, just slight reference is made to comparative regions of study. It is clear that this model has had an impact on further training models. Spece and Oades (2011 p38) note that a significant number of the instructing studies and surveys, impacts a variety of mental qualities and procedures. They likewise see that a significant part of the writing, when talking about training, raise the worry to utilizing intellectual social instructing, persuasive meeting and enthusiastic knowledge. McMahon (2007) was a prime supporter of the psychological social instructing model. Her model focussed on a non-order type of addressing which empowered a person to become mindful of their feelings. This model has been widely guessed and explored with most by far being experimental. Tragically, it is just intended to be utilized over a brief timeframe, however empowered just a skilled professional to form a person into recognizing critical thinking objectives. In any case this addressed individual issues yet it didn't consider the necessities of the foundations targets. There is also across the board accord and thoughts with regards to what training and tutoring is or what makes a decent mentor. The Institute of Leadership and Management Creating an instructing society Report (2011) inspected the connection between who directs the training and what is training best practice. See figure 1 underneath. They found that in spite of the fact that line chiefs are the favored decision, they don't really cause the best mentors as this will to forestall the accomplishment of the mediation gave. Lamentably most of their examination to date utilizes just a little quantities of members and makes investigation testing. Figure 1 Who embraces instructing? Figure taken from the Institute of Leadership Management Creating a training society Report May 2011 The normal director/mentor, so as to be effective, requires some type of insight, information that they should convey well, comprehend their subordinates or friends and act properly. These abilities are acquired as well as must be supported after some time. Enthusiastic knowledge, as it is alluded to, requires the administrator to have compassion, duty, activity and mindfulness. To realize yourself sincerely empowers a person to modify their conduct towards others. Sterrett (2006) endeavors to acquaint this idea with the individuals who are occupied with instructing and coaching. Divider (2006, p68) alludes to a key parts of a mentor or guide as being passionate Intelligent which, alludes to an assortment of individual and relational abilities that have tremendous effect on a people achievement. To be sure instructing must currently incorporate this component as it can permit the mentor to draw in at an individual level and guide the coachee to set their objectives connected to their very own qualities. Subsequently the coachee is bound to purchase in and seek after this relationship if the change matters to them. With all positives there can be a negative as Alexander (2011) then again offers another angle to the utilization of passionate knowledge. She contends when enthusiastic insight is utilized it can likewise give an individual the scholarly preferred position and can be utilized to control, control and scare. Anyway the article utilizes emotive language. It is deficient in fairness and doesn't create any solid proof. The result is she tends to over accentuate the negative part. The McLeod and Thomas (2010) model of training, the STEPPA Model (Subject, Target objective, Emotion, Perception, Plan

Typically malt liquor beverages have a higher percentage of alcohol content, are sold in larger containers, and are sold at a lower price per volume than the average beer. Compared to a standard drink, the typical malt liquor beverage is off the scale. The average malt liquor beer can average 80% more alcohol content than the usual 12-ounce beer. Because malt liquor represents a quick, cheap alcohol buzz, the beverages have been traditionally targeted at lower-income, minority communities. In fact, one study found that malt liquor drinkers are more likely to be homeless, unemployed, on public assistance, compared to regular beer drinkers. The study also found they also tend to drink more alcohol, and drink more often than other types of drinkers. Consume More Alcohol Per Drink Measuring malt liquor beer consumption is difficult because malt liquor beers differ from other beer beverages in two important aspects: container size and alcohol content by volume, said Ricky Bluthenthal, assistant professor at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science and corresponding author for the study. We found that the combination of these differences resulted in the average malt liquor drinker in our study consuming 80% more alcohol per drink than the average regular beer drinker. Although we did not report consequences in this paper, typically the more alcohol consumed the greater the probability of negative alcohol-related consequences for an individual and their community. Increased Risk of Problems Malt liquor beers can be sold in containers as large as 40-ounce bottles, or forties as they are referred to, said Rhonda Jones-Webb, associate professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota. Forties are commonly sold chilled and wrapped in brown paper bags for immediate consumption, and independent web sites devoted to malt liquor as well as rap lyrics and movie scripts encourage chugging the bottles before they get warm. The combined effects of higher alcohol content, larger serving size, and faster consumption can result in higher blood alcohol levels, an increased risk of aggressive behavior, and other alcohol-related problems. A Sign of Masculinity? Jones-Webb said that malt liquor beers are largely targeted to African American and Hispanic youth, and young adults. Malt liquor brands such as Steel Reserve, Hurricane, Magnum, and Panther are used by the alcohol industry to connote power and machismo and lure youth and young adults into the market. Rap artists have been popular images in malt liquor advertising and gangsta rap performers portray malt liquor as a sign of masculinity. The targeting of minority youth for malt liquor sales is of particular concern because alcohol advertising has been shown to influence the brand choice, and brand choices during youth can influence beverage choices as adults. South Los Angeles Study To find out more about malt liquor drinkers, the researchers went to the streets conducting face-to-face interviews with 329 drinkers recruited from randomly selected alcohol outlets in South Los Angeles. The investigators gathered information on the drinkers socio-demographic characteristics, alcohol-use history, drinking patterns, and drinking context. Based on previous research, said Bluthenthal, we know that malt liquor beers, because of price per volume and availability, are likely to be more attractive to lower-income drinkers. In addition, advertising and popular culture references to malt liquor beers are more prevalent in media that are likely to be seen or used by African Americans. In short, south Los Angeles seemed to fit the profile we needed. Malt Liquor Drinking Patterns The sub-sample that reported drinking in the previous 90 days (n297) was 88 percent African American, 72 percent male, and 35 percent unemployed. Compared to regular beer and hard-liquor consumers, malt liquor beer drinkers were: More likely to be homelessMore likely to receive public assistance for housingLess likely to be employedReported significantly higher rates of daily or near-daily drinkingReported more drinks per day on drinking daysReported higher daily average alcohol consumptionMore likely to smoke while drinkingMore likely drink with same-sex friendsMore likely to drink outdoors Drinking More Hazardous Amounts The drinking levels we observed among malt liquor beer consumers were on average higher than the amount of alcohol consumed by individuals who are entering alcohol treatment programs, said Bluthenthal. The study also confirms that malt liquor beers are consumed in potentially more hazardous amounts and settings than regular beers and that grouping malt liquor beer drinkers with regular beer drinkers are likely to result in underestimates of alcohol consumed among malt liquor beer drinkers as well as the consequences of this consumption.

Darwins father heard through letters from Darwins sisters that he was no longer interested in medicine. Darwins father refused to have a dilettante for a son, so he sent Darwin to Cambridge. Darwin took more interest in his extracurricular activities than he did his major, a clergyman. ââ¬Å"It was at Cambridge that Darwin realized what he wanted to do with his life. Frederick Herzberg came up with his finding Free Essays
Frederick Herzberg came up with his findings on satisfaction, which he published in his book ââ¬Å"The Motivation to Work,â⬠in 1959 (NetMBA [no date]). He conducted series of interviews where ââ¬Å"employees were asked what pleased and displeased them about their workâ⬠(NetMBA [no date]). After analyzing the gathered data, he came up with the six top factors in the work environment that cause dissatisfaction, or the hygiene factors, and the top six factors that cause satisfaction, or the motivation factors. We will write a custom essay sample on Frederick Herzberg came up with his finding or any similar topic only for you Order Now When the following factors are absent, there is dissatisfaction: (a) Company policy, (b) Supervision, (c) Relationship with Boss, (d) Work Conditions, (e) Salary, and (f) Relationship with peers (NetMBA [no date]). However, it is to be noted that the presence or maintenance of these factors does not necessarily mean satisfaction but would only mean that there is no dissatisfaction (NetMBA [no date]). If supervision will be maintained at the minimum level, it does not necessarily mean that the employee will gain satisfaction in his job. Furthermore, it could be noticed that these factors are external to the job itself and to the worker. These are things which are dependent on a lot of other things aside from the worker and the job. The factors that lead to satisfaction are as follows: (a) Achievement, (b) Recognition, (c) Work itself, (d) Responsibility, (e) Advancement, and (f) Growth (NetMBA [no date]). Similar to the factors that lead to dissatisfaction, the absence of one of these six factors does not necessarily lead to dissatisfaction but would only mean that there is no satisfaction felt. It is to be noted that Herzberg does not meant these two sets of factors to be of the opposite poles but he meant it to live on two different sticks. It is best to make an illustration of this for better understanding. Here, it is easy to pinpoint what happens when the two set of factors are present and absent or maintained and not maintained. Reading the second column downwards, motivating factors bring satisfaction when these are present. With their absence, no satisfaction is felt but this does not necessarily mean that the employee is dissatisfied. On the third column, when the hygiene factors are not maintained to a desired level or are absent, this leads to dissatisfaction. Their presence or maintenance, on the other hand, would bring no dissatisfaction but does not necessarily mean that satisfaction is achieved. Somehow, it gives much sense that this theory provides certain implications for management of human resources. This theory pinpoints how the level of confidence or satisfaction of employees can be boosted or how their morale, for that matter, can be placed at a higher level. The human resources manager, aided with this theory, may at the very least, be able to identify soft spots where improvements could be made for the employees to feel satisfied with their jobs. The sets of factors mentioned above could be a starting point for bringing in satisfaction and for boosting the morale of the employees. More specifically, the manager could concentrate on addressing the hygiene factors and keeping it at a level that leaves no dissatisfaction for the employees and raising up the motivation factors to bring in satisfaction. This way, it could also be a precursor for higher levels of morale for the employees. Further, Herzberg did not leave the study without strategies for bringing in the much-desired satisfaction for employees. One of his suggestions was job enlargement for employees. Job enlargement, in human resource management, may be taken as the horizontal expansion of a certain job. For example, a secretary who has the job duties of answering phone calls and making appointments to clients may be given a new task of organizing the incoming and outgoing files. Giving more tasks of the same nature and would fit the job title would fall under the category of job enlargement. It is like adding more chocolate to the chocolate. This is not the same as job enrichment, which is adding the almonds and fruits to the chocolate. To this, the technique that leads to job satisfaction can be identified and is through the combination of high hygiene and high motivation (Anon. [no date]). This means eliminating the causes of dissatisfaction to a point where there is ââ¬Å"no dissatisfactionâ⬠felt by the employees (Anon. [no date]). Subsequently, the company can inject the motivation factors to lead the people to become highly-motivated employees (Anon. [no date]). The two-factor theory of job satisfaction may have took off from and have similarities with the Hierarchy of Needs by Abraham Maslow as it also pertains to (a) physiological, (b) security and safety, (c) love and feelings of belonging, (d) competence, prestige, and esteem, (e) self-fulfillment, and (f) curiosity and the need to understand (Anon. 2005). This theory does not escape the criticisms because there are loopholes or gaps that are left unfilled. This theory does not take into consideration the fact that people may not consider the same set of hygiene and motivation factors because they might have different needs and achievements. Moreover, it does not take into consideration the nature of corporations because the motivation factors can not be introduced such as the call centers where the hierarchy is vey flat and job enlargement is not very much possible because of the high division of labor. Spirits of the Past free essay sample
I was once told by my parents that there were no such things as ghosts. It didnââ¬â¢t take me long to see otherwise. When I was eight years old, I visited the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) for the first time while on a field trip with my elementary school. Since my sense of direction left much to be desired, I got lost about five minutes into the tour. Completely confused, I wandered into an interesting-looking exhibit, which I later learned housed an impressive collection of Greco-Roman statues. At that time, however, they just looked like gigantic people frozen in place. But what was freezing them? While sane people would point out the obvious fact that those statues were made of rocks and thereby could not act as normal people could, my eight-year-old mind (which, trust me, was never very level-headed to begin with) immediately began perceiving these artifacts as alive. We will write a custom essay sample on Spirits of the Past or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page What ensued was a daytime version of ââ¬Å"Night At The Museum.â⬠A disembodied head of a man in a Greek helmet began smiling at me, the people engraved on an artsy looking box started dancing with their swords, and a shiny, white-sculpted man rattled his pedestal and flexed his muscles. At this point, unaware that I was hallucinating, I ran away extremely frightened and with wet eyes and wet pants. After I was sent home for insubordination since I ââ¬Å"choseâ⬠to abandon my school group in an art museum, I realized something very important about my visions. Despite all the weird things I had seen the statues do, none of them ever spoke to me! From then on, I became obsessed with the question, If these ancient sculptures could speak, what stories would they tell? What would the figures on the aforementioned box (which, I later found out, is a Greek sarcophagus dating back to 100 BCE) have seen and experienced during the 2000-plus years they have been in existence? When I asked my parents this, they told me to go back to doing my math homework so that I could one day become a mechanical engineer just like my father. Ugh! Regardless of my parentsââ¬â¢ apathy, I was determined to know more about these age-old relics. I begged my mom to take me back to the DIA so I could take notes on all the artifacts in the exhibit. I also visited my local library to read up and gather more data on the contents of the museum. In fact, after gaining knowledge ââ¬â like the fact that the bust of the head with the helmet that was from ancient Corinth, and that the acclaimed Hellenistic Greek sculptor Alexandros of Antioch may have helped design the engraved sarcophagus ââ¬â I presented my findings for show-and-tell in my third grade class, presided over by the same teacher who had thrown me out of the museum two weeks before! The presentation went beautifully and when my teacher asked what inspired me to do so much extracurricular work, I honestly declared that it was all because she sent me home for ââ¬Å"not following directionsâ⬠and that if the rest of the class wanted to sound smart like me, they sh ould consider doing exactly what I did on the next field trip. The entire class roared with laughter ââ¬â except for my teacher, of course. Ever since the ghosts of those ancient artifacts communed with me all those years ago, my desire to study history has gripped my spirit with a tenacity unlike anything I have ever experienced. I fully intend to pursue my historical aspirations in college because I will be able to interact with scholars much more historically inclined than my third grade teacher, and I will enjoy every day of learning. I have always been exceptionally curious, and when it comes to history, no piece of knowledge ââ¬â however insignificant or risky to obtain ââ¬â will ever escape my notice. Authorââ¬â¢s Note: This college essay was arguably my most personal. It is amazingly a true story and helped me get into college programs at the University of Michigan, Cornell University, and Dartmouth College.

It is called the Great Barrier Reef because it creates a barrier between the Pacific Ocean and the coast. The Great Barrier Reef is a scattering of thousands of individual reefs. The reefs is on the World Heritage List made by UNESCO, because of its size and its many different plants and fishes. The reef lies in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, the worlds largest marine park. It has an area of nearly 350 000 square kilometres. The reef region is 260 000 square kilometres. The reef region is a popular tourist attraction because of its warm climate, sandy beaches, colourful wildlife, tropical islands and ideal conditions for water sports. 3 Ways to Become a Better Writer... No its not hopeless!
3 Ways to Become a Better Writer... No its not hopeless! The Dershowitz Dilemma An article in the July/Aug 2012 Yale Alumni Magazine listed some famous Yale graduatesââ¬â¢ favorite classes and the stories behind them. In one vignette, Alan Dershowitz, Yale ââ¬Ë62LLB, Attorney, Harvard law professor and best-selling author, told a surprising (and very well-written) tale (The Class Ill Never Forget): In his first-year Torts class, Dershowitz received a dreaded D on his first written assignment. His Professor, Guido Calabresi, wrote a comment implying that Mr. Dershowitz, though a sound thinker, might not be suited to the practice of law due to his sub-par writing ability. The problem, as Calabresi stated it, was that Dershowitz wrote as if he were ââ¬Å"having a conversation with [his] friends in Brooklyn.â⬠The professor worked all semester to step Dershowitzââ¬â¢s writing up to an acceptable level. Apparently it worked. Will you ever learn? Dershowitz is not the only writer capable of being trained. For many years, for instance, I have been editing my motherââ¬â¢s New Yearââ¬â¢s letter. It used to take a lot of work and a lot of verbal wrestling with Mom. Nowadays, I breeze through in a few minutes with very little to suggest. Mom learned too! She is now one of my sharpest editors. Master Editor Sol Stein, in his book Stein On Writing: A Master Editor of Some of the Most Successful Writers of Our Century Shares His Craft Techniques and Strategies, shares about a time when he sat on a panel with four other editors. A question was posed about how to control the ââ¬Å"paceâ⬠of a book. Steinââ¬â¢s colleagues agreed that ââ¬Å"pace was a matter of ear or instinct, and [was] hence unteachableâ⬠(p. 193). Stein disagreed. He went on to explain to an eager audience how to change the pace of a novel. Stein proves in his book that pace is just one of many teachable writing skills. If you find yourself lamenting that you are ââ¬Å"just not a good writer,â⬠consider whether you have the time and motivation to learn to be a better one. Things like descriptive writing can be taught. Title writing can be taught. Grammar can be taught. Keeping a readerââ¬â¢s interest can be taught. 3 Ways to Become a Better Writer (by no means an exhaustive list) 1. Read More I remember hearing that the best way to learn to write well was to read good writing. I am fortunate that as a child I was an insatiable bookworm; Iââ¬â¢m sure I learned much of my writing technique through osmosis. The good news is: Itââ¬â¢s never too late to start reading. Do you want to raise the level of your writing? If you have a commute that involves public transit, or if you have a lazy Sunday afternoon at your disposal, why not pick up one of the classicsâ⬠¦ or maybe an Alan Dershowitz novel will be all you need. 2. Read Aloud Reading your writing aloud can also enhance your writing prowess. Sometimes something as simple as listening to yourself will ensure that your writing works. If you trip over a sentence or a word when reading out loud, or if you start to bore yourself, itââ¬â¢s time to edit until you like what you hear. Remember, the books we love the most are just as powerful as Books on Tape as they are in print. 3. Find a great editor A third option, and perhaps the most reliable if you need good writing now, is to submit your writing over, and over, and over again to a good editor (I humbly suggest The Essay Expert for this option). You will get an immediately improved product; and, if you are like many of my clients, you will likely find that your writing improves naturally as you study and accept edits and coaching. My mother, when I told her she would be featured in this article, joked, ââ¬Å"Sure, Brenda I get it If your mother can do it, anyone can.â⬠Are you looking for a great editor? Not ready to put in the time and energy to improve your writing yourself? Contact The Essay Expert. I look forward to making you look great!

Independent evaluation of agile methods Literature review
Independent evaluation of agile methods - Literature review Example Teams looking for an appropriate way of monitoring scope and at the same time enhance project implementation timelines look to agile project management. This method assists firms attain a healthy balance between waste reduction, cost cutting and quality preservation (Patel, Seyfi, Taghavi, Wills, Liu, Latih, & Misra, 2012). While conveying value to the buyer in a cost efficient way, agile project administration sustains the intricacies of the projects in a way that the conventional systems would not have in any way. Agile methods can help teams dispense products more swiftly while making them acclimatize to vicissitudes more easily than when they would have used the traditional methods (Maarit, Outi, & Pekka, 2010). The other benefits of agile methods of project management are that it cuts the time spent on information gathering while also enhancing implementation timelines. Agile project management simplifies teamwork and group effort enhancing overhead costs involved in project implementation. Agile project management is an adaptive approach that stresses on collaborative work or in other words revolutionary driven work done which demands team work in its execution and a continuing involvement of interested parties in the project cycles. The response of the interested parties is crucial during the execution process of the project when the end consequence is indefinite in some extent. In such an environment, the collaborations are inducted in every stage. This is important because it permits to reexamine the project on the basis of the interested partiesââ¬â¢ feedback and reallocate work in the project accordingly. ELECTRIC CART PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
ELECTRIC CART PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS - Assignment Example These motors are powered with the help of battery packs, which are rechargeable. Electric motor offers several benefits compared to the use of internal engine combustion to power vehicles. These include zero emissions of air pollutants, fuel economy among several other benefits. Electric motors enhance the performance and greater efficiency of energy. The general costs used in maintaining and operating electric motor powered vehicles are low compared to the conventional fuel driven vehicles. Selecting as well as calculating the correct motor for the electric cart vehicle depends largely on the total weight of the vehicle, the area where the Cart will be used and the terrain of the area. If the Cart is to be used in a hilly or an area with mountains, the individual will require more engine horsepower than in a flat terrain. The speed of the motor is also dictated by the aerodynamics profile of the Cart before and after the conversion and its use. A simple cart used for commuting in a normal city traffic definitely requires a cheaper motor with less horsepower compared to the one to be used in winning races or have the fastest acceleration. Several other variables can be used in calculating the speed of an electric motor depending with its use (Chi-lan et al. 2011). The speed of an electric motor and vehicle largely depends on the battery pack voltage. Using a Direct Current (DC) motor, one hundred and forty-four (144) volts will be enough to drive the vehicle at a speed of seventy miles per hour. The available power that is stored in the batteries determines the total distance that the cart is able to go before recharging it. Power measured by calculating the voltage in the battery multiplied by the battery amperage multiplied again by the useful power that is available in the battery without damaging the cells. The chemistry of the battery is the one determining this figure. This does not indicate

The Impact of Increased Literacy on Ballads and Chapbooks in Seventeent
The Impact of Increased Literacy on Ballads and Chapbooks in Seventeenth-Century England In seventeenth-century England, the rise of popular education and literacy coinciding with the mechanical technology of printing, led to the decline in the creation of ballads and in the importance of chapbooks. After England's Restoration period, inexpensive print was available in large quantities due to new technological innovations in the printing field. Almanacs became important for households on all social levels to own and approximately four hundred thousand were printed in the 1660s annually. Bibles were also being printed in great amounts, though less than almanacs due to the fact that they did not become out-dated. Early in the seventeenth-century England underwent "a form of phenomenon a little like that phenomenon of the Great Rebuilding and is very likely related to it" (9). This upsurgance of spending power enabled the yeomanry of the countryside to send their sons to school. Free from the labor force, these boys were taught to read and write. Fathers who were not as wealthy as the yeomen, still could send their sons to school until they were of working age, about six or seven. These lower class boys were taught to read, but writing was taught at a later age. This increase in the amount of the population that could read and write was extremely significant, transforming England from the fourteenth-century to the sixteenth century from a late medieval peasant society, to a society in which reading and writing were used by more people, and on all social scales, for education and entertainment. Approximately thirty percent of men in the latter half of the seventeenth-century were literate. Sixt y-five percent of the yeomen w... ...rich widow, waiting at the same place to go through the ceremony with him" (56). Regional chapbooks were written, with the characters talking in local dialects and usually mocking another region of England or a person visiting from a foreign country. The rise in literacy and the decrease of printing costs that simultaneously occurred in the seventeenth century, had both negative and positive effects on the socio-economic structure of England. The oral tradition of ballads, and the social community centered around it, were lost. Literacy brought self-education through books and entertainment from chapbooks to hundreds of yeomen, farm labors, tradesmen, and some lower class poor. Work Cited Spufford, Margaret. Gender Inequality Essay
Gender inqualities often stem from social structures that have instiutionalized conceptions of gender differences. Gender inequality has been around for centuries. In many family homes, their lives evolve around gender roles. The responibilties in the family are allocated to their sex (gender). There are certain tasks which are usually allocated to males and females. Some see this division as biologolical differences between the sexes and others see it happening in cultural backgrounds. There are sociological theories that have tended to see gender roles as natural and inevitable. Talcott Parsons, suggested that within the modern nuclear family it was essential that one parent, (the father) performed the instrumental role of the leader and provider whilst the mother performed the expressive role of giving psychological support and taking responsibilty for socialising children. This made sense because women give birth to and nurse their children. Itââ¬â¢s a typical sterotype, that is engrained in both men and women. Gender is seen closely related to the roles and behaviour assigned to women and men based on their sexual differences. As children we learn and adapt to specific gender roles, and as we grow they become more evident and more important to our role in a society. There is more married women that work outside of the home and some men spend more time at home with their families. Martial roles have become increasingly similar. Historians of the family have made it show how gender roles in the family are socially constructed. The roles pllayed by men and women in any history poont may seem natural and inevitable. When you look back to the past, you see how much its changed according to the reguirements of society and the needs of families at particular times. During the latter of the 20th century the views began to change but still stained ideologies from the past they still exist ath the brink of the 21st century. 82% of women (wives and girlfriends) still do the housework according to a new study in Britain, but when it comes to housework, we are back in the 50s. For the females of today we can pretty much do anything we like, join the army, be a prime misiter, run a company or be a stay at home mum. As the new century, today, we see a greatly altered family landscape in which dual-income and single parents families outnumber the ascendant two-parent, one-earner in the household. There is more single parent families nowadays. So they would be taking on the roles as the breadwinner and home maker. But its not just women doing this, there is a lot of men as single parents and broken families that have to take on these roles. So a lot has changed over the years. And there is more and more working parents. Gender role and inquality is not just geared towards women but also men. As much as women face inqualities, ther are many aspects about the world thatââ¬â¢s is unfair towards men. The question remains, ââ¬Å"will men and women ever be found equal? â⬠My answer, no. Men and women are simply too different to be considered be treated the same. Yes, I do believe that men and women should be paid the same, and given equal and all opportunity, but as far as the biological sense goes men and women have two completely different biological makeup. It is scientifically true that women are more nurturing whereas men are found to be much more competitive and aggressive. That is not to say that those traits can not be mixed upon the two genders, but there is still too much that keeps gender separate. In some culturals, gender inequality will never change for most. The women are to stay at home, raise the family and do the household chores. In some of theses culturals domestic violence accurs and the women keep quiet about it because they cant leave because its discrimmination to their society and most culutrals donââ¬â¢t allow women to get a divorce. Many developing countries including India have displayed gender inequalit in education, employment and health. It is common to find girls and women suffering from high mortality rates. India has witnessed gender inquality from its early history due to its socio-ecnomic and religious practices that resulted in a wide gap between the position of men and women in the society. Gender inquality has an adverse impact on development goals and reduces ecnomic groth. It hampers the overall well being, because blocking women from participation in social polical and ecnomic activties can adversely affect th whole society. Discrimination also plays out with networking and in preferential treatment within the economic market. Men typically occupy positions of power within the job economy. Due to taste or preference for other men because they share similar characteristics, men in these positions of power are more likely to hire or promote other men, thus discriminating against women. Discrimination against men in the workplace is rarer but does occur, particularly in health care professions. Only an estimated 0. 4% of midwives in the UK are male and according to cbs only 1% of all trainee nurses and only 2% of Secretaries are male. Women have increasingly been finding their place in a male driven environment whether it be in the office, politics, or in the cut throat world business and CEOââ¬â¢s, women have become more and more powerful in a manââ¬â¢s world. Needless to say, women have not reached the level of power that a man would have, but seeing as where woman stood forty years ago it is a step in the right direction. Over the years, gender role has clearly played a big part in the way that women are treated, whether it be being confined to the kitchen, or rendered to emotional to run for office, it seems as though society has built two completely different species of human to live amongst each other. It may sound drastic, but if men and women were to be more similar, there would be more chance for equal treatment. As unfortunate as it is, it seems as though society is at a stand still on where to go with gender inequality, and if there is no way to convince an entire generation to change they way they treat each other, then it might as well stay that way. Unfortunately society is way too stubborn to be able to change its ways about said subject. All that being said, we have come a great deal over the years, and maybe one day we can point that everyone can agree on.

Medicine in the Medieval Period In the 14th Century, trade around Europe was increasing ships regularly and travelled from the Mediterranean to other parts of Europe. In 1348 one ship brought a devastating plague to England. Most simply waited, hoping to God that themselves and their families would survive. However some people decided to take action. The King and his Bishops sent out orders for churchmen to lead processions, pleading with God to end the pestilence. Japanese and Chinese cultures have many similarities owing to the fact that the latter has exerted a major cultural influence on the former. As is mentioned in the De Baryââ¬â¢s book on Japanese tradition, the Japanese started recording their after they had contact with the Chinese. In fact the earliest existence of Japan is in the Chinese Dynastic histories around the 1stCentury BCE, written by Chinese historians who were known to compile fairly reliable accounts of their present day world (p. We will write a custom essay sample on American history Empire, War, and propaganda or any similar topic only for you Order Now à 3, 4). The native accounts of Japanese were written around the 8th century CE, by which time the Japanese were already heavily influenced by the Chinese traditions. Hence, there are a lot of cultural similarities between the two countries. This paper compares and contrasts the two cultures with respect to their religion, tradition, literature and philosophies. Traditions and Philosophies in China and Japan Chinese Chinese philosophy and religion seems to begin with Confucius and his teachings. While there are certain records which are supposed to pre-date Confucius, according to De Bary in his book on Chinese Tradition these works are suspected to be compiled after the time of Confucius (p. 1). The traditional history consists of many semi-divine culture heroes who supposedly were responsible for bringing civilization among the people of China. These were followed by three rulers of exceptional wisdom ââ¬â Yao, Shun and Yu, as is mentioned in the books by De Bary on Chinese Tradition (p. 2). However, the most famous of the Chinese religion and Philosophy is of course the teaching of Confucius who adopted the teachings and examples of these rulers in his teachings. In fact according to De Bary the life of Chinese for the past 2000 years can be characterized in a word to be Confucian. The second most important and influential native philosophy of Chinese is more religious in nature and is known as Taoism. Many of the present day philosophers comment that the two philosophies complement each other. While Confucianism concerns itself with the social responsibilities and human aspects of life, Taoism contends itself with a spiritual outlook towards life. De Bary mentions that these two philosophies give two different aspects of an individual ââ¬â one that is related to his work and responsibilities and the other which is related to his spiritual side (p. 48). The work of Confucius was further refined to make it a more moralistic and righteous, such that people were honor bound to fulfill their duties and responsibilities. These were other philosophies at work in China. One of these was Legalism which was proposed by Shang Yang and is considered to be yet another classical school of thought in China. The theory however was explained in detail by Han Fei, who is considered as the father of this philosophy. De Bary says that growth of this philosophy was due to a need for a more rational organization for society than the traditional feudalistic system, which had started to disintegrate even during the Confucian period (p. 122). Legalism was inherent in the Han Empire and was made palatable by adopting Confucianism as the state ideology. As will be seen in the section below Legalism combined with Confucianism was one of the philosophies that was widely accepted and followed in Japan after they decided to abandon their clan-based society for a more rational one. Japanese Prior to Chinese influence, Japan consisted of a number of tribes ruled by individual kings. These tribes were supposedly from many different parts of Asia including Korea and proceeded to settle in the Japanese islands. While the early traditional influences of Japanese people remain obscure, Chinese writings mention Japanese people as performing sun worship, which might account for the name of the country. These writings also mention the people as being honest, polite, displaying gentleness in peace and bravery in war, love for liquor and mountains and religious rites of purification and divination as is mentioned by De Bary in his book on Japanese tradition (p. 5). This type of nature worship was the oldest type of religion found in Japan and was known as Shintoism. As the tribes began to exert their sphere of influence, they turned towards the Chinese philosophies and examples for both political and cultural guidance. Hence, the Japanese culture is very closely intertwined with the Chinese culture, and it is not the other way round. De Bary mentions that many of the imperial edicts issued during the Great Reform period which began in the 645 CE consisted of Chinese based administration systems (p. 63). For instance the old political system which was based on tribal clans was changed to the Chinese system of systematic territorial administration. Also there was an attempt to abolish private property, nationalize the land and redistribute it based on the family size which was the system followed in China. De Bary says that these systems were so meticulously followed that the records that have been found of this period are almost identical to those found in China (p. 64). However, the influence exerted by the Chinese on Japanese traditions was not just political during this period. As is already mentioned above, Chinese life has been mostly influenced by the teachings of Confucius. Needless to say these traditions were adopted by Japanese also and formed one of the integral parts of study for the scholars during the period. However, these teachings cannot be found in their original formed as debaryhas confirmed in his books (p. 69). There have been many changes because the people tended to imbibe their existing religion and philosophies with those of the new order proposed by the Chinese philosophers during that period. Buddhism in China and Japan Chinese Buddhism came to China via India in the first century AD, where the religion originated. Buddhism came divided into a number of sects, said to be eighteen in number before it came to China. When Buddhism entered China some of these sects were introduced and assumed newer forms under the Chinese influence. In addition Chinese themselves developed many strong sects. Initially when it came to Japan Buddhism encountered stiff opposition and remained a foreign religion for over two centuries after which it started getting accepted. The problem as is told by De Bary was that the Chinese did not know about the sectarian nature of Buddhism, and considered whatever words were written to be the words of Buddha. This resulted in confusion due to the many contradictory statements of various sects. Mahayana Buddhism or the Greater Vehicle took on a Chinese character and evolved into several schools such as Tien-Ttai, Hua-yuen, Pre Land and Chan Japanese Buddhism is one of the major religions practiced in both China and Japan. The religion was introduced to Japan in the 7thcentury AD. The most popular types of Buddhism followed here were Pure Land and Zen Buddhism, a offshoot of Chan Buddhism (p. 120). In Japan, Buddhism became closely intertwined with the principles of Shinto. This was initially done to make the religion more acceptable to the local public. The first clear indication of a merger between Shinto principles and Buddhism according to De Bary was in the middle of Nara period which was more than 200 years after the religion was introduced in the country. De Bary further states that the mutual relationship of the Buddhism with the Shinto developed and by the Kamakura period there existed detailed explanations of Shinto gods as the concrete manifestations of Buddhist deities (p. 121). Here, the Buddhism and its various rites differ from the Chinese versions because there are no such deities present in the Chinese versions, where the Buddhism was based primarily on the Taoist principles of the beauty of nature and relation between Buddhism with the various environmental issues. Literature influence The influence of Chinese literature in Japanese culture is clearly evident by the fact that Japanese follow the Chinese pictographic script in writing. The reason for this is mentioned by De Bary in his book where he says that the Chinese way of philosophy and political code was adopted directly by the Japanese rulers. An understanding of the corresponding script was hence considered to be necessary and such a script was considered to be a must for being considered as a scholar whether literal or political (p. 48). However, the Chinese script being very difficult to its pictographic nature had to be simplified when it was adopted by the common man. Hence, the Japanese also have sound based writing system which is not present in the Chinese script. Political influence Chinese influence can be seen in almost every aspect of Japanese life. On the political side De Bary gives the example of the Imperial rule which is sometimes called Tennoism. This type of imperial rules gives the ruling family a divine status. In Japanese society, this translated to the ruling family having an unbroken tie with the Sun Goddess who was the primary deity worshiped by the Japanese people. The chief difference between the Chinese and Japanese ruling systems was that the former was merit based while the later was hereditary in nature. The Chinese rulers were theoretically subjected to the criteria of merit and rulers or dynasties could forfeit the mandate to rule if they did not live up to them. This principle was absent in case of Japanese ruling family, which was primarily governed by the hereditary principle and the merit principle did not apply at all to the ruling family (p. 69) Conclusion As has been already mentioned above, the Chinese and Japanese traditions and cultures are closely inter related due to the strong influence the former had in the development of the latter. The cultural vein has flowed from Chinese to the Japanese people, which included the spread of Buddhism in the country. The principles were no doubt changed according to the dictates of the society, but the binding ties can be clearly seen between the cultured of the two countries.
